Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born on the 20th of October 1964 was an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as also the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a member and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Following her first job as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. The office was named San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, Harris was appointed Attorney General for California. She was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California from 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path towards citizenship for immigrants without a legal status as well as the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. Her name is well-known due to her direct questioning of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
